Adam's Baptism Cake

Angela and Simon was a long time supporter of BakerzDad, Simon's Panda birthday cake was one of the cake that I did and I also did their Puzzle Wedding Cake.  They have been blessed with beautiful baby boy, Adam and Angela contacted me to do Adam's baptism cake.

Angela asked me to do me-to-you teddy bear, the original picture the teddy was holding rosary, I tried to make rosary but it didn't turn out well so I did cross instead.

She also asked me to do baby booties but I pitched in the idea to make it converse sneakers instead and she agreed.

Along with the cake she also asked me to do cupcakes as favors for the guests to take home. The cupcakes come with individual boxes.

Details on the cake

Angela sent me this image of how the arrange it in the Church. Welcome to the Kingdom of God little Adam may you raised become a faithful man and fear of God.

Thanks for checking my blog, I will update you with my next project. My next project will be my last for 2013.

Rustic Wedding Cake

One of our bridesmaid was getting married and she asked me to do her wedding cake. I've been quite close to Indira the bride because she's really easy to be around with, always positive and open minded. When she asked me to do her wedding cake unlike other bride she left everything up to me I mean everything.

Her only brief was the wedding going to be in a vineyard and it has sort of like rustic feeling to it and her color was green. First came to my mind was sugar succulent which is quite popular lately, it's still uncommon and quirky and fit to the rustic theme.

This is my first time did sugar succulent and I love how easy and great it turned out to be. The branches idea came to me when I visited Cake Expo in Melbourne, I saw one of the cake has succulent and branches on it. The challenge is to find what branches to use. At first, I was thinking to use dried curly willow so I went to the florist and informed that they don't sell dried willow only fresh willow and it will get dry if taken out of water for a couple of weeks, yeah right I only have like 4 days until the wedding.

So I took the change and bought the fresh curly willow and took it out of the water. At the end it worked out better because the fresh branches are easier to handle.

I accompanied the cake with a dozen of cupcakes decorated with sugar succulents. It's not your usual wedding cake so I was quite nervous if Indira doesn't like it but when I showed her the pictures I took when I saw her outside the church she approved it phew.

Me the baker hehehehe

Look how beautiful the venue was

Cutting the cake, seriously that vintage table was very wobbly I was scared that the cake toppled to the ground

The traditional sharing the cake (or cupcakes)

It was a very fun day and we enjoyed beautiful weather at the wedding, happy wedding Indira and Mike may you love each other for the rest of your life.

Isadora's First Birthday Cake

Isadora's mum contacted me to do a cake for her first birthday. She wanted me to do similar cake with the one I did for Ella but different (?) hahahahaha. After we discuss the idea she wanted me to do Isadora figurine on top of her cake.

She sent me a picture of Isadora with her birthday dress, a beautiful white dress and she asked me to make the figurine hold Isadora's favorite plush toy a cute bunny and she will be holding a baloon with number '1' on it.

because it's sort of bunny theme she asked me to do carrots to go around the top tier. Along with the cake Isadora's mum asked me to do some cupcakes too.

It turned out that Isadora's dad is a photographer and has his own studio Vivera and he sent me these pictures from the party. It looked like very fun party, and look at the details.

Such a fun cake to make and making me so happy that the display it on a beautiful dessert table. Thanks for checking my blog, I will update you with more projects.

Cars Cake for Marco

This is my beloved nephew first birthday cake. My brother is a huge fan of F1 racing and I think he's trying to get little Marco into racing too.

They choosed Cars 2 from Disney's animation as the birthday theme. It put me to a new challenge as I never done Cars before and it's proven to be quite a challenge as I miserably failed.

I tried to do the figurines with fondant and half way I decided that it was too hard for me (sigh). So I admit defeat and flew to K-Mart 6 in the morning to get the actual toys for the cake. This is probably the first time I failed doing a figurine and with time pressing I decided to do the shortcut (very disappointed with myself).

Recovering from the defeat I managed to do some cupcake toppers with cars-inspired topper. I think it turned out quite decent.

At the end at least the cake looks great and my SIL didn't really mind with the real toys. Little Marco get to play with it at the end.

The cake and cupcakes
My borther and SIL prepared a beautiful dessert table for little Marco and I think they've done a great job.

Thanks for visiting my blog, I will update you with my next project.

Ocotonauts Cupcakes

Hi All,

So, I've done this cupcakes together with flowers and butterflies cupcakes on my previous post. The flowers and butterflies cupcakes are for the girls and for the boys my friend ordered Octonauts cupcakes.

Actually, she leave it up to me with the design but she wants a special cupcake for the birthday boy with Octonauts theme. As I quite fond with the Octonauts theme I pitched to do Octonauts cupcakes for the boys and she accepted.

The idea is to make a special cupcake for the birthday boy, as he's favorite character on Octonauts is Captain Barnacles I made a figurine of Captain Barnacles to go on top of the special cupcake. The rest of the cupcakes will be the face of the crew, I did Kwazii, Peso and Shellington.

As for the special cupcake, I placed number 4 as the birthday boy is turning 4 and his name on the cupcake.

This is suppose to be a quite simple design, but how I learned that nothing is simple and easy to do with cupcakes. Cupcakes very time consuming and those teeny tiny details are killing me. Doing these cupcakes made me miss normal size cake hahahaha, but it's a good learning curve though.

It's not an easy project and very time consuming, however the end result is not disappointing. Thanks for looking and I will update you with my next project.

Flowers and Butterflies Cupcakes

Hi All,

It's been a while since I post something and actually I've done this cupcake last week but haven't got a chance to sit down and write new post.

Phew... finally I can bumped the adult only cake off the top position, got a mixed respond on that cake many were laughing and found it hilarious but some are more concern about my morality hehehehe. Anyway, chillax people it's just a cake and cake meant to be enjoyed.

Moving on from the controversial cake, I got my brother's friend contacted me to do cupcakes for her son's 4th birthday. She wanted some girly girl cupcakes for the girls and Octonauts cupcakes for the boys (her son loves Ocotonauts).

Since the theme are not related so I divided the cupcakes project into 2 posts.

The first one is the girly girl cupcakes. The brief is to make girly cupcakes with sugar and spice and everything nice. I was so busy with my Octonauts cupcakes since it required more attention so I briefed BakerzMum and here's what she came out with.

All credit goes to BakerzMum for these wonderful creations. I think the cupcakes turned our beautiful and according to my friend the girls love them.

I have several posts coming as I'm behind with my blog. Will update you shortly. Thanks for looking.

Little Red Riding Hood Party

Hi everyone,

I'm not going to post a cake this time, I mean not just a cake but a whole dessert table. We've come full circle with this project, as you may know that I started baking and cake decorating when I experimenting with fondant for my daughter's first birthday. I was making cookies-on-a stick back then, fast forward one year I did a whole dessert table for my daughter's second birthday. Here's a picture as a reminder when it all started.

Cookie-on-a stick I did for my daughter's first birthday

And now I present you, BakerzDad's first dessert table, it took months to plan, a week to execute and forever stays in my heart.

The theme was little red riding hood inspired by some beautiful creation by talented party stylist out there and the fact that red and pink is always my daughter's color. Initially I wanted to do Alice's tea party but at the end I decided to do little red because it's more suited for my daughter. So I went to the internet for some inspiration and I found the cutest rendition of little red by some Japanese lunch box company, so basically the picture that inspired me is taken from lunch boxes hehehehe.

The invite

All of my cake decorating journey I've seen tons of beautiful dessert table and I promise myself one day that I will make my own dessert table. The opportunity came when we decided to throw  birthday party for my daughter and I was already planning months in advance especially what I did was trying to build cake stands collection.

I started with the printable, trained as desktop publisher sure came handy when I need to get some graphics done. I'm not the most creative person so what I did was basically using what I have from the invite design and make some printable out of it. This is the part that you need to plan ahead when you want to make sure no last minute rush. I got the printable printed and trimmed weeks before the party so I don't have to worry about it because it's quite time consuming to do.

The printable

For the desserts, I started a week in advance for the cookies as I can store them in airtight container and it won't go stale. The next step is macaroon shell, I tried 1.5 recipe in oppose to single recipe and my macaroons didn't turn out as I wanted but I can't be bothered to redo it. I store the shells in an airtight container and filled it one day before the party.

I had my mum and dad came from overseas and I got my mum printed labels for apple juice bottles, I love how it turned out.

I did cupcakes and cakepops last once I finished with the cake. The turned out quite well too.

Cakepops

Let's take a closer look on the dessert table, I bought some lollies and marshmallows for the buffet and it added color to the table.
And now we move on to the cake, seeing a lot of dessert tables I can tell that since the table already loaded with sweets you don't need big cake and the design should simple as you already got a colorful table. But I can't resist myself, I've been dying to try on 3 tier cake and what's the best time to do it if not on my daughter's birthday. So BakerzMum and me decided to do 3 tier cake but I compensate with the design as I don't want it over crowded the table. I decided to once again took the graphic from the invite and playing with color.

Bottom layer is chocolate cake with ganache filling and I cover it with red fondant with minimum decoration.

The 2 top tiers are lapis surabaya with cut out fondant mimicking the invitation design.

This is a darn heavy cake but I'm really happy how it turned out and a great experience for me and BakerzMum.
We had a great day, as I finally got to do my first dessert table and everybody had fun at the party probably a little bit sugar overdose.
My little family

Thanks everyone for checking on my blog, hopefully I got to do project like this more often. Here's a sneak peek on photo session of the cake done with portable studio tent. I will update you with my next project.

Mulan Cupcakes

Mulan Cupcakes in a box of 24

An old friend contacted me asking for a quote for cupcakes for her daughter's birthday party. At first it's a bit indecisive about the theme of the cupcakes. But at the end we decided to go with Mulan to match the Mulan birthday cake done by the grandma.
This is my first cupcakes project, a bit time consuming because I can't do the decoration days in advance. But overall it's an enjoyable experience.

I was planning to make the cricket but it's too delicate and it was like 1 in the morning so I dropped it and asked Bakerz Mum to do the cherry blossom instead.
Credit to Bakerz Mum for getting the perfect cupcakes, in all she baked 60 cupcakes. The first batch of 24 was a write off, the second batch was not as high as I wanted it to be. The third and fourth batch were perfect.
Thanks for checking my blog, will update you with my next project.
