Elmo Cake

My second most favorite Sesame Street character, my most favorite is Cookie Monster. I was thrill when a friend of mine asked me to do Elmo cake. She sent me the printables for the party and it looked colorful, vibrant and exciting.

She asked me to do stripes for the bottom layer and a polka dots on the top layer with Elmo burst out from the cake. I decided to do the top layer as present so it looked like Elmo burst out of a present.

I was procrastinating to the max with this cake and I had the Hoot and Hootabelle cake the day before. So I turned to me newly found best friend, styrofoam ball for Elmo's head and I really rely on support on this figurine. I had skewer supporting the head and went into the body all the way to the length of the cake. For the hand I used spaghetti to supported it and it went all the way trough the body to the cake.

Making Sesame Street character is always fun because they're so easy, no need to be perfect because they cover in fur just need to make sure the proportions are correct.

My friend prepared an amazing dessert table in this cake was sitting tall in the middle of it. I love how the color scheme went really well together and everything looked so pretty.

I can't help myself taking the opportunity to pose next to the cake, it was a great party and superb dessert table.

Thanks for checking my blog, I will update you with my net project. Ciao.

Hoot and Hootabelle Cake

If you have kids in Australia, these characters are unavoidable as part of daily routine for your toddler is watching ABC for kids which Hoot and Hootabelle along with Jimmy Giggle are hosting. This is my first cake with these characters but I can feel this theme is quite popular among children and I might do this a lot in the future.

A good friend of mine asked me to do a Hoot and Hootabelle cake for her daughter's first birthday but she reminded me to use hootabelle's colur scheme rather than hoot because this is a cake for a little girl. First think I did id the figurines, since I experimented with stryrofoam in my robocake project I found that using styrofoam is time saver and help the figurine to shape better.

As for the all fondant figurine took a long long time to set and sometime I experience sagging especially on the head section, using styrofoam eliminate all the problem. For this project I used stryofoam for the bodies and heads of the figurines and it saved me quite amount of time. I guess styrofoam ball will be mynext best friend.

Along with the cake, my friend asked me to do some cookies as party favour with2 designs of Hoot and Hootabelle. These cookies took a long long time to make because all of the details, but I'm so happy with how it turned out.

My friend made a bunting for the cake and it really completed the look of the cake. I'm really happy with how everything turned out and I have to say even though we didn't communicate about the buntings it matched the color scheme perfectly.

I had so much fun doing this project even though there are moment when I'm a bit frustrated with the cookies like the stapler was out of staples in the middle of the night but all in all I really enjoy it.

Thanks for checking on my blog and I will update you with my next projects.

Teddy Bear Picnic Cake

This is another one of last minute cake, a friend's friend contacted me to do a cake for her son's birthday. After we settled on the size of the cake she sent me her sketch of how she wanted the cake to be and I returned with my suggestion.

This is the first time I've ever sketch a cake for a customer, I've done sketches before but it's more for my own design development.

This is the sketch that I did and I'm so happy that the cake turned out exactly like the sketch.

This cake is 2 tier chocolate cake and 1 tier red velvet cake (top tier), the design is inspired by the invitation and the mother specifically requested blue satin ribbon on the neck of teddy bear because they will have blue ribbon for the party as well.

I really enjoyed doing this cake and so happy how it turned out, even though I had a bit of a drama with figurine decided to jump off the cake on delivery. At the end i had to reassembled the teddy bear on the venue and then I fond out the effect of the figurine fell off the cake the top tier slanted at the back. I almost die there and then but the customer was so graceful about that and made sure that it's not a big problem, bless her good soul.

Thanks for checking my blog, I will update you with my next project. Cheers.

Baptism Bear Cake

My friend contacted me for her son's baptism cake. What I've been given is the invite to the event with blue and white stripes that's it. So I took it that I had a free reign on designing the cake.

I did my due diligent searching on facebook and what I found is mostly baby booties, crucifix and bear. I love the idea of bear and made the topper bear.

The instruction is clear, keep it simple and clean, so that's what I did a bear topper with message ' God Bless Ethan' on the top tier. I'm in love with the rim cutter I used on my previous project and used it again on this cake.

All in all I'm quite happy with the result and how the cake looked at the end. I had a positive feedback from the mother, it's always nice to have someone complimented your ahrd work.

Thanks for checking my blog, I still got some cakes to blog soon. Ciao.

Cowboy Cakepops

My friends are throwing joint birthday party with cowboy/cowgirl theme and asked me to do cakepops for them. I'm not really and expert cakepops maker and they asked me to do cowboys, cowgirls and horses cakepops which I had to decline because I'm not confident enough with my skill doing shaped cakepops.

At the end they still wanted me to do cakepops with design that I'm more comfortable with. because the theme is cowboy/cowgirls I decided to do cowboy/cowgils hats and stars with the initial of the birthday boy and girl.

My cakepops was part of a fabulous dessert table, unfortunately it was a really hot hot hot summer day and I was too busy chasing my girl around the park so I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the whole dessert table.

Here's a photo I snitched off my friend's facebook, I hope she wouldn't mind. It was a great dessert table and despite the scorching hot weather we had a fun day in the park.

Thanks for checking my blog, I will update you with more projects soon....very soon...

High Tea Cake

This is another cake from January, I don't know what's wrong with me this year but I've been extremely lazy. One day I was contacted by a lovely lady from Jakarta, she would like to order a cake for her best friend in Melbourne. I think it is a very lovely gesture that no matter they're oceans apart she still wanted to give her best friend a lovely surprise.

At first she's now sure what she wanted the cake to look like but at the end she settled with tea cup with macaroons inside. The birthday girl is a big fan of high tea and macaroons are her favorite, don't we all love macaroons.

First thing that I did was creating the tea cup and saucer using fondant, the order came in a bit last minute so I think I was very lucky my tea cup and saucer set in time. I've seen many beautiful haind painted tea cups before and this is my first time ever attempt hand painting on any of my cakes and I think it turned out quite well.

For the color scheme I decided on green and white to give it vintage feel and in line with the hand painted tea cup. I also adorned the cake with fondant ribbon roses, the lady who ordered the cake originally asked for pearls but with the color scheme I thought the roses looked better.

Macaroons are store bought, I didn't got enough time to do any macaroons and with limited time given I really didn't have any room for error. Love the colors but wish the shop bought the macaroons from got brighter color macaroons but I think it still looked lovely.

Even though this is a last minute cake, I put a lot of love with this one because I quite like the concept. I'm very happy with how the cake turned out, it's very feminine and delicate.

Thank you all for checking my blog, I will update you with my other projects. Cheers.

Mumm Champagne Cake

It's been a while since I blogged, been slacking off lately. This is actually my first cake of 2013 done in January and I've been put it on hold for so long.

In this project a friend of mine asked me to do a champagne bottle cake for her mum's 50th birthday. I have to copy Mumm champagne bottle with edible prints etc. I've done a bottle cake with Johnnie Walker Blue label cake before so I was kinda know what to do with the edible prints.

I'm quite happy with how it turned out, even though I would love more rounded cake but all in all it was a great cake.

Thanks for checking my blog, will update you with more projects. I got plenty that I haven't blogged yet.
